- Where did Ron learn to read and write?
- How did Harry learn to swim? It is said many times that when Dudly was taken to events, that Harry was left behind. Were swim lessons the only activities the two did together?
- If magic cannot be used to create food, then are there wizard farmers creating food the muggle way?
- How are spells invented? It is mentioned in one of the books, I forget which that a relative of a character was killed in the invention of some spells. We also know Snape was creating new spells while he was still in school. Wouldn't it be facinating to know what that process is like?
- Why are wizards still making candles? Couldn't they make some type of magical objects that light up? It has always struck me as strange that wizards accept old muggle objects like candles but don't accept new muggle objects like light bulbs. And either way, I'm sure the wizards could make a better lighting device than medival muggles. Why aren't they?
- How many wizards does Rowling think there are in the world? In the past I've extrapolated the number of students in hogwarts by assuming that there were five kids in each dormatory in the whole school. If you assume all wizards 11-17 year old are in that school you can extrapolate the number of wizards in england and from there the number in the world. But the is probably the least accurate math I've ever done and I'm wondering what Rowling thinks the answer is.
- Why is there no wizard college? At the end of his seven years at Hogwarts Harry wouldn't have been fully trained to be an Auror, is there only on job training? Or is there some type of Auror equivilent to the police acadamy?
- Wouldn't it be easier to modify the student's memories to have them believe they've learned History of Magic rather than actually sitting through the class? Once again, this is a question of why aren't wizards using magic as much as they could?
- Why are there prefects bathrooms in the halls? Wouldn't it be best to have them at least somewhere near the dorm rooms?

Does anyone else feel that there are large holes in the continuity of the wizarding world created by J.K.Rowling? I read the books and I'm enthralled by the world she creates, but when she leaves out one little thing I'm upset by the omission. The first question in my list of questions for J.K. Rowling has bothered me for years. Ever since I read the first book I've wanted to know who taught Ron how to read. I've asked friends their opinion on the question and they've said "Who cares? The books are 700 pages long, do you really want her to put more useless information in them?" Now I know that wizarding children probably learn how to read one of two ways: their mother, or some community day school. But wouldn't it be nice if J.K. Rowling mentioned which one it was? As I started re-reading the series, I've started wondering about more and more similar questions. This is my list here:
